Osinbajo may have shot himself in the foot

SIR: Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has formally declared his long held intentions to run for president in an underwhelming and self-sabotaging speech. His excellent poise and delivery would have been enough to sway gullible citizens but Nigerians have long learnt to look past a soothing voice and a calm demeanour. A severe case of once bitten, twice shy.

Osinbajo is not only a lawyer, but a professor, a pastor and Nigeria’s second citizen. Naturally, all the cards should be in his favour. However, his honourable titles have done nothing but prove that one bad egg indeed spoils the rest. By mere association with the current government, earning the people’s trust is something he would have to work hard for.

If he planned to do that in his declaration speech, then he has shot himself in the foot.

35 Cyclists To Represent Nigeria At Second Africa Cup Track Cycling Championship

  By McFross.  The Cycling Federation of Nigeria (CFN) has picked 35 cyclists to represent Nigeria at the second Africa Cup Track Cycling Championship holding from Thursday to July 17 in Abuja. Bashir Mohammed, CFN’s Technical Director, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the cyclists were picked from the elite and junior teams camped in Abuja. ”They have been undergoing intensive training for over four months at the velodrome of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium,” he said. Mohammed said the team of cyclists would participate in several events at the championship. NAN reports that the Nigerian team will compete in events in both the junior and elite levels in the male and female categories. The 35 cyclists will be divided into two teams of 17 for the juniors and 18 for the elite.
